James Maddox

James Maddox founded Maddox & Reyes on a simple conviction: injured people deserve a lawyer who will actually try their case. In more than two decades of practice he has tried over 75 cases to verdict, earning a reputation among Tampa Bay insurers as an attorney who will not be pressured into a low settlement.

A Tampa native, James began his career representing insurance companies — experience that now tells him exactly how the other side builds, values, and defends a claim. He left that work to represent people instead, and has spent the years since recovering tens of millions of dollars for clients hurt by negligent drivers, trucking companies, and property owners.

James handles the firm’s most serious and complex litigation, from catastrophic trucking collisions to wrongful-death claims. Colleagues know him for meticulous preparation; clients know him for plain talk and for picking up the phone himself. He believes every client deserves to understand their case and to deal directly with the lawyer handling it.

James earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law and remains active in the Hillsborough County legal community. When he is not in the courtroom, he coaches youth sports and stays close to the Tampa neighborhoods where he grew up.
